Discord Error Monitor Setup

Requirements

  • AthenaBot 2.2.0 or newer
  • The core plugin enabled
  • A private Discord webhook or restricted staff channel
  • No extra Node packages

Installation

  1. Place the discord_error_monitor folder in plugins/.
  2. Start AthenaBot once to generate both configuration files.
  3. Keep enabled: false while choosing and testing the delivery target.
  4. Configure either webhook or channel mode.
  5. Review stack-preview, attachment, queue, rate-limit, and suppression settings.
  6. Set enabled: true and restart AthenaBot.
  7. Confirm startup logs say the plugin is ready to forward reports by the selected mode.

Webhook Mode

{ config: { enabled: true, mode: "webhook", webhook_url: "YOUR_PRIVATE_DISCORD_WEBHOOK_URL" } }

The URL must be a Discord webhook URL. Webhook mode does not require a setup channel and can deliver reports before the Discord client is ready.

Treat the webhook URL like a password. Do not post it in support tickets, screenshots, logs, documentation, or a public repository. Regenerate the webhook immediately if it is exposed.

Channel Mode

{ config: { enabled: true, mode: "channel", webhook_url: "" } }

Use /setup to assign a restricted staff channel to the discord_error_monitor slot. AthenaBot needs View Channel, Send Messages, and Embed Links. Grant Attach Files when include_stack_file is enabled.

Channel reports captured before the client becomes ready remain queued until the ready event flushes them.

Safe Launch

  • Use a private test channel or webhook first.
  • Keep include_stack_file off until you have reviewed the information in your stack traces.
  • Add only known, low-value noise to suppressed_errors.
  • Confirm the report destination is not visible to regular members.
  • Watch AthenaBot logs for delivery or validation warnings.

The plugin does not include a command that intentionally creates an error. Confirm delivery when the next real Athena error occurs instead of breaking a live command to test it.
