Troubleshooting

The Plugin Disables Itself On Startup

Check the console for missing dependency logs. Athena should install plugin dependencies automatically, but if it does not, stop the bot and run:

npm install canvas axios node-schedule moment-timezone

Then restart AthenaBot.

No Automatic Games Start

Check these settings:

  • randomGames.channelId is the real text channel ID.
  • randomGames.triggers.timeInterval is greater than 0.
  • randomGames.triggers.messageCount is reachable for your server activity.
  • randomGames.triggers.cooldown is not longer than expected.
  • If requireBoth is true, both the timer and message count must be satisfied.
  • No game is already active in the channel.

Enable debug.LogTriggers temporarily if you need to see trigger decisions.

Members Cannot Use !game

Check:

  • The configured prefix in commands.prefix.
  • The command format is exactly !game, !game list, !game random, or !game <alias>.
  • If commands.gameCommandRole is set, the member has that role.
  • The bot can send messages in the channel.

The Bot Cannot Delete !game Messages

Give the bot Manage Messages in the game channel. This is optional. Games still work if the command message cannot be deleted.

Leaderboards Do Not Update

Check:

  • leaderboards.enable is true.
  • leaderboards.channel is a valid text channel ID.
  • The bot can attach files in the leaderboard channel.
  • Wins are being recorded after game rounds.
  • leaderboards.updateInterval is not too high for testing.

MVP Roles Do Not Assign

Check:

  • The MVP period is enabled.
  • The roleId is the real Discord role ID.
  • The bot has Manage Roles.
  • The target role is below the bot’s highest role.
  • The reset actually ran for that period.

Movie Or Celebrity Games Fail To Load Data

Check tmdbApiKey and any API limits. If an external API is temporarily unavailable, the rest of the local games can still be used.

Image Games Render Incorrectly

Check the bundled asset folders and font setting. If canvas failed to install or compile, image generation will fail. Reinstall dependencies and restart the bot.
