Predictions Troubleshooting

/prediction Does Not Appear

  • Confirm the folder is plugins/predictions.
  • Confirm AthenaBot 2.2.0 or newer is running.
  • Check startup logs for config or command-language errors.
  • Restart AthenaBot after changing slash-command names.
  • Confirm the member passes permissions.prediction_command.

Staff Cannot Create, Close, Resolve, Or Change Rewards

  • Check the matching action-specific permission under permissions.
  • The base command permission and the action permission both apply.
  • Confirm the configured permission names exist in Athena’s permission config.

A Prediction Is Posted In The Wrong Channel

  • The explicit channel option wins first.
  • Otherwise the plugin uses predictions_default_channel.
  • If neither is available, it uses the channel where the command was run.

Vote Buttons Do Not Appear

  • Confirm interactions.enable_vote_buttons is true.
  • The number of answers must not exceed interactions.max_button_choices.
  • Buttons may be removed after locking when delete_buttons_when_locked is enabled.

Button Votes Are Rejected

Buttons always submit a zero wager. Keep wagers.allow_zero_wager: true if members should vote with buttons, or direct them to /prediction vote with a valid wager.

A Wager Is Rejected Or Coins Look Wrong

  • Check min_wager, max_wager, and the prediction-specific cap.
  • Confirm the member has enough Athena coins when balance checks are enabled.
  • Review refund_wager_on_vote_change before testing vote changes.
  • Cancellation refunds run only when the prediction is cancelled and refund_losers_on_cancel is enabled.

Winner Or Milestone Roles Are Not Assigned

  • Grant AthenaBot Manage Roles.
  • Move AthenaBot’s role above every configured reward role.
  • Check that the role ID exists and is not a managed integration role.
  • Review logs for failed role counts or hierarchy errors.

A Prediction Does Not Auto-Lock

  • Confirm it has a positive lock timestamp from lock_after or prediction.default_lock_after_ms.
  • Confirm the plugin is enabled.
  • Check auto_lock_interval_ms and scheduler errors in AthenaBot logs.

The Public Message Does Not Update

  • Confirm AthenaBot can view and send messages in the original channel.
  • Check whether the message or channel was deleted.
  • Review logs for the configured message_update_failed warning.

Dashboard Changes Do Not Match Local JSON5

Dashboard-backed MongoDB values can override the local file. Make the change in the Predictions dashboard or confirm which source AthenaBot loaded before editing configuration/predictions.json5 again.
