Thread Watcher Troubleshooting
/threadwatch Does Not Appear
- Confirm the folder is
plugins/thread_watcher. - Confirm AthenaBot 2.5.1 or newer is running.
- Confirm the
coreplugin is enabled. - Check startup logs for config or command registration errors.
- Restart AthenaBot after changing command or subcommand names.
A Protected Thread Is Not Reopened
- Run
/threadwatch statusin the thread and confirm Protected is Yes. - Confirm Athena has
Manage Threadsin the thread and its parent channel. - Check that
reopen_archived_threadsistrue. - Check that
dry_runisfalse. - Manually locked threads are intentionally never reopened.
- Run
/threadwatch checkand review the error count.
A Protected Forum Is Not Scanned
- Confirm the forum ID appears in
/threadwatch list. - Grant Athena
View Channel,Read Message History, andManage Threadsin the forum. - Increase
archived_fetch_pagesif the post is older than the configured scan depth. - Check
max_unarchives_per_scanif the scan found more archived threads than it could reopen.
/threadwatch remove Says the Target Is Still Protected
The command only removes targets previously saved with /threadwatch add. The
same thread may still be listed in thread_ids, or its parent forum may be in
forum_channel_ids. Remove the matching dashboard or JSON5 target as well.
Archive Timer Changes Fail
- Confirm Athena has
Manage Threads. - Use one of Discord’s supported values:
60,1440,4320, or10080. - The longest durations may not be available to every server.
- The plugin pauses repeated duration attempts after a provider rejection. Wait for the error cooldown or select a duration your server supports.
- Reopening still works even when the preferred timer cannot be applied.
Too Many Threads Change at Once
- Lower
max_unarchives_per_scan. - Increase
action_delay_ms. - Reduce
archived_fetch_pageswhile testing. - Enable
dry_runand run/threadwatch checkbefore restoring live changes.
Logs Do Not Appear in Discord
- Set
logging.log_channel_idto a text channel Athena can view and send messages in. - Enable the matching log toggle.
- Confirm the configured channel belongs to Athena’s Discord server.
- Check the console for
Could not send Discord logerrors.
Dashboard Changes Do Not Match Local JSON5
When dashboard-backed configuration is enabled, MongoDB values can override the local files. Make the change in the dashboard or confirm which source Athena loaded before editing JSON5 again.
